Envoy in UN’s Geneva office: Iran firmly defends national sovereignty and remains committed to diplomacy

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office in Geneva says while firmly defending its national sovereignty and security, the country considers diplomacy the primary tool for safeguarding national interests.

Genuine dialogue can only succeed when it is based on respect, equality, and recognition of legitimate interests, Ali Bahreini said in Geneva on Thursday while speaking at a ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution and the National Day of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The 1979 Islamic Revolution reflected the will of a nation seeking dignity, sovereignty, and the right to self-determination, he said.

Bahreini noted that the Islamic Revolution was not merely a change in political orderbut the restoration of national ownership over Iran’s destiny, adding that since then, despite numerous external pressures and challenges, the Islamic Republic has pursued a path based on independence, social justice, public participation, and rejection of subjugation.
