Qatar, Egypt welcome and support Iran-US nuclear negotiations

The foreign ministries of Qatar and Egypt have welcomed and expressed support for the latest round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.

The two ministries issued separate statements on Friday, the same day Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held indirect talks with US representatives in Muscat, the capital of Oman. The negotiations were mediated by Oman’s foreign minister and attended on the American side by US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s advisor and son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

The talks took place amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States that raised concerns over a military confrontation in light of the US military build-up in the region. Iran has stated that any attack on its territory would be met with a decisive and comprehensive response. Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has also warned that any war against Iran would turn into a broader regional conflict.

Both Egypt and Qatar expressed appreciation to Oman for hosting and facilitating the negotiations, as well as to other countries for their efforts to help defuse the tensions.

Egypt fully backs Iran–US talks

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed “full support” for the resumption of negotiations between Tehran and Washington, as well as for efforts aimed at de-escalation and achieving a peaceful and sustainable settlement to the Iranian nuclear issue.

The statement emphasized that these efforts must be based on creating a favorable climate founded on good faith and mutual respect, enabling the swift conclusion of a sustainable agreement and sparing the region the risks of military escalation, which would have catastrophic consequences for all countries.

The ministry stressed that there are no military solutions to the Iranian nuclear issue, noting that dialogue and negotiation remain the only viable path forward in a manner that takes into account the interests of all concerned parties.

Egypt also reiterated that it will continue to support efforts to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear file in a way that serves the interests of both negotiating sides and the region as a whole, in coordination with regional partners.

Qatar welcomes Iran–US negotiations

In its statement, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said Doha welcomed the negotiations between Iran and the United States, expressing hope that they would lead to a comprehensive agreement that serves the interests of both parties and enhances security and stability in the region.

The ministry also reaffirmed Qatar’s full support for all efforts aimed at de-escalation, resolving disputes through diplomatic channels, and strengthening the foundations of regional peace and stability.
