Nawaz Sharif calls for dialogue to resolve regional tensions, hails Iran’s resilience

Former Pakistani Prime Minister and head of the country’s ruling party faction, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, on Wednesday underscored the importance of resolving regional tensions through peaceful means.

Sharif, who leads the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), made the remarks during a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghaddam.

The meeting was held in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, and was also attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Iran’s Consul General in Lahore, Mehran Movahedfar.

Sharif said that the doors of dialogue must remain open and that all disputes should be resolved through peaceful channels. He added that Pakistan holds deep respect for the Islamic Republic and believes the Iranian nation has consistently confronted challenges with courage.

The remarks come amid high tensions between Iran and the United States, with US President Donald Trump ordering a massive military buildup in the region and threatening military action if there is no nuclear deal.

During the meeting in Lahore, the two sides exchanged views on developments in bilateral relations, regional issues, and ways to expand cooperation in trade, investment, economic, and cultural fields.

For his part, Ambassador Amiri Moghaddam expressed appreciation for Nawaz Sharif’s role in supporting the development of Iran-Pakistan relations and strengthening unity in the Islamic world, describing the ties between the two countries as “two souls in one body.”
