Leader visits Imam Khomeini's mausoleum as Islamic Revolution anniversary begins

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has visited the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, on the eve of the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

During the visit on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei performed prayers at the site and renewed allegiance to the ideals of Imam Khomeini.

The Leader also paid respect to the martyrs of the Islamic Revolution.

Sunday marks the return of Imam Khomeini from exile in Paris in 1979, which set off nationwide protests against the US-backed Pahlavi regime across Iran, culminating in its ouster.

Every year, the occasion is remembered with Ten-Day Dawn Celebrations in Iran and other countries by sympathizers of the Islamic Republic.

The Leader’s visit comes despite some reports, including by the ‘Iran International’ TV network, alleging that  Ayatollah Khamenei is “hiding in an underground shelter” in Tehran amid heightened tensions with the United States.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to attack Iran after inciting violence earlier this month by calling on armed rioters to take over state institutions and promising them that "help is on its way."

Foreign-backed armed rioters and terrorists hijacked peaceful protests over economic grievances on January 8 and 9. The violence resulted in extensive damage to public and private property, with widespread destruction of shops, government institutions, public service facilities, and the killing of thousands of civilians and security forces.

Amid a massive military buildup near and off the coast of Iran, Trump has since shifted his rhetoric from a potential military strike to help the terrorist rioters to pressuring Iran to abandon its nuclear program.

In subsequent remarks and online posts, Trump called on Iran to make a deal, warning that failure to do so would trigger a military strike “far worse” than the US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025.

Iran has repeatedly rejected threats and coercion, insisting that diplomacy cannot succeed under pressure or intimidation. It has said it is ready for talks if they are fair and based on mutual respect, while warning that any military attack by the US or its allies against Iranian interests would be met with a swift and decisive response.
