Pakistan backs diplomacy with Iran, opposes foreign interference

Pakistan has reiterated its support for diplomacy with Iran and voiced strong opposition to any foreign intervention in the internal affairs of its neighbor, warning that war and instability would undermine regional security.

Speaking at a weekly press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said Pakistan closely monitors regional developments, noting that the foreign ministers of Iran and Pakistan held two telephone conversations over the past week.

Responding to IRNA, the spokesperson stressed that Islamabad consistently supports peace and diplomacy and opposes war and violence, particularly with regard to Iran.

Andrabi said Pakistan strongly rejects foreign interference and sanctions against Iran, adding that any conflict or unrest would be detrimental to regional security, prosperity, and economic development.

He also noted that alongside regional diplomatic efforts, Pakistani officials recently engaged with US counterparts in Davos, Switzerland, emphasizing that all issues should be resolved through peaceful means.

Also on Thursday, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said that its top diplomat spoke with his Iranian counterpart over the phone to express concern about the current regional situation and emphasize the priority of diplomacy in resolving the crisis.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, during the call with Abbas Araghchi, expressed his concern over the evolving regional situation and stressed that dialogue and diplomacy must be prioritized to manage and resolve the crisis.

Both foreign ministers agreed to remain in close contact in the coming days to coordinate on the situation.

Tensions remain high between Iran and the United States amid escalating rhetoric and threats of military action from President Donald Trump. Iran has warned that any strikes on its territory would be considered an act of full-scale war and would be met with a forceful and comprehensive response.
