Iran slams Israeli destruction of UNRWA facilities

Iran’s Foreign Ministry says the Israeli regime's attack on UNRWA headquarters is a criminal act that demands a firm international response.

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s attack on the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in occupied al-Quds and the destruction of the UN body’s buildings.

Referring to the inviolability of United Nations premises, property, and personnel under international documents—particularly the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations as well as the rules of international humanitarian law—Baghaei stated that the attack on UNRWA’s headquarters and the occupation of its buildings constitute a criminal act and an unprecedented violation against the United Nations, requiring an effective and responsible response from the international community, especially the United Nations itself.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that amid the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people, the Israeli regime’s destruction of UNRWA facilities is part of a systematic policy aimed at depriving Palestinians of even the most basic humanitarian services.

He underscored the responsibility of the Israeli regime’s supporters, particularly the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany, in creating and sustaining the current situation.

Baghaei further warned that the continuation of lawlessness and crimes committed by the Israeli regime in occupied Palestine and across West Asia, coupled with ongoing inaction, has not only undermined the credibility and effectiveness of the United Nations but has also exposed international peace and stability to unprecedented threats.
