In an interview with the Saudi newspaper Okaz on Monday, Enayati emphasized Iran’s commitment to regional security and peace. He expressed support for all efforts aimed at preventing conflict.
The ambassador warned that the onset of any conflict would not only affect one country but could have dangerous consequences for the entire region.
He reaffirmed Iran’s belief in peaceful solutions to regional crises, stating that dialogue is the only effective way to address complex problems. However, he noted that other parties often overlook this option and instead pursue confrontation.
Enayati said that Iran welcomes all initiatives and efforts aimed at fostering dialogue, expressing appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s role in promoting discussions, preventing tensions, and steering the region away from the disastrous consequences of war. He noted that the high-level contacts between Tehran and Riyadh demonstrate a shared approach between the two nations in this regard.
He emphasized that Iran seeks to maintain strong relations with its neighboring countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, based on ongoing communication and good neighborliness. The reciprocal visits and continuous interactions between officials from both countries reflect this commitment, he added.
Enayati explained Iran’s vision for the region as one of prosperity and stability, adding that Tehran is ready to cooperate with its regional partners to achieve this vision, which benefits all. He highlighted Iran’s dedication to cooperating with neighboring countries to resolve political issues.
The ambassador further asserted that Iran is prepared to utilize all available opportunities for dialogue, consultation, and serious cooperation on shared concerns. He emphasized that collective and joint action is the only effective means to achieve desirable goals, while division only complicates crises.
In discussing the nuclear negotiations, Enayati said, “Trust should not be one-sided; it is built through reciprocity. Iran engaged in numerous negotiations in 2015 and 2016 to achieve tangible outcomes, but the other party did not follow through on the agreements made during those talks.”
He emphasized that Tehran is open to serious negotiations that yield results beneficial to all parties involved, without imposing predetermined outcomes or favoring one side.
Enayati added that the continuation of sanctions erodes trust and deprives the Iranian nation of opportunities for economic development.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he discussed the recent foreign-backed unrest in Iran, highlighting that regional security is indivisible and the stability of any country positively reflects on its neighbor, and instability in one country threatens the security of all parties.
The ambassador also called for comprehensive regional dialogue based on collective cooperation in political, security, and economic areas, stressing that no country should be excluded from the regional system, and warned against plans aimed at weakening and fragmenting regional countries.
“In our view, the real threat is the increasing influence of Israel in the region,” Enayati underlined.
