Yermekbayev and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation on Thursday and discussed latest regional and international developments.
The SCO secretary general strongly condemned the acts of terrorism and sabotage in Tehran and other cities of Iran, which were carried out by misusing peaceful protests.
He expressed sympathy with the Iranian administration, nation and the family of victims of the recent unrest, wishing recovery of the injured.
Yermekbayev also highlighted the joint position of member states regarding respect of sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, equality and mutual interest, non-interference in internal affairs of countries, and not using force or threat as a basis for sustainable international relations.
For his part, Araghchi referred to the peaceful protests in Iran, which were turned into violence by trained terrorist elements, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic of Iran defends the national sovereignty and security of its citizens against terrorism of the Zionist regime and the US.
The top Iranian diplomat appreciated the position of SCO secretary general in condemning terrorism and foreign interventions in Iran, stressing the collective responsibility of all countries to cooperate in the field of prevention and counter-terrorism.
