Iran’s MMA ranks 2nd in Asian Games

Iran’s National Mixed Martial Arts Federation (MMA) team has become runner-up in the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.

With 14 medals, the Iranian MMA fighters have received eight quotas in Asian Games.

Iranian squad consisting of 13 male and seven female athletes attended the event.

Moslem Fathollahi and Sajjad Azizi grabbed gold medals.

Fatemeh Akhlaghizadeh, Mobina Amiri, Ali Shadman, Ali Akbar Ahmadi, Mohammad Reza Sadeghi and Hadi Abbasi received silver medals.

Hasti Sadat Mir, Faezeh Eslamipour, Kamand Deh-Pahlavan, Amir Mohammad Hadi Hamid, Ali Akbar Taleshi and Mohammad Jalilzadeh snatched bronze medals.

The MMA is a full-contact combat sport based on striking, grappling and ground fighting, incorporating techniques from various combat sports from around the globe.

In its essence, the mixed martial arts sport combines different martial arts such as Muay Thai, Kyokushin, boxing, kickboxing, taekwondo, wushu sanda (Chinese boxing), judo, Brazilian jujitsu and wrestling.
