Araghchi made the remarks during a phone conversation on Friday with Yvette Cooper, Britain’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.
During the call, the two sides exchanged views on several bilateral issues, including consular matters. They stressed the importance of continuing consultations at various levels to strengthen mutual understanding and to follow up on issues of interest to both countries.
Araghchi criticized the irresponsible approach of three European countries (Britain, France, and Germany) toward Iran’s nuclear issue, reiterating that Tehran has never ruled out negotiations conducted on the basis of respect for Iran’s lawful rights and legitimate national interests. However, he emphasized that Iran rejects any form of talks that amount to one-sided imposition concerning its nuclear rights.
For her part, Cooper reaffirmed her country’s position that diplomacy remains necessary in addressing Iran’s nuclear file.
