'Imam Khomeini World Award' ceremony will be held in Tehran

The winners of the first edition of 'Imam Khomeini World Award' will be introduced and honored in a ceremony at Tehran’s International Summit Hall on Wednesday, the head of the Islamic Culture and Communications Organization announced.

Hojatoleslam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour pointed to the highest badge of honor of the Islamic Republic, saying it would be awarded to the most effective real and legal entities active in the field of promoting Imam Khomeini's School of Thought that has found a wide global audience since the 1960s.

He said the ceremony will also honor prominent Iranian and international figures who encourage the thought and practice of Imam Khomeini.

Calling 'Imam Khomeini World Award' the most prominent in the national and international arena, Mehdi Imanipour said its approach is global, considering the perspective for the Leader of the Islamic Republic on issues such as the occupying Israeli regime, and the oppressed people of the world, colonization and the dominance of Western powers.

The award was first approved by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in 2013 but was finally given a go-ahead in 2023, with amendments to its statute, level, and structure that is based on 10 thematic axes, including recognizing and introducing outstanding scientific, intellectual, and social works related to the thoughts and character of Imam Khomeini.

Iran's president and several ministers are in the award's policy-making council, along with personalities associated with national and internation scientific and academic centers. 10 judging committees work under the policy-making council, on different themes of the award.

The winners of this edition have been selected from among distinguished domestic and foreign figures after screening some 6,000 works by the relevant committees and will be honored in the presence of intellectuals from over a dozen countries.
