Iran is ready to expand coop. with Ethiopia: Pres. Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says that his country is keen on expanding and broadening relations with Ethiopia in all fields.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Speaker of the Ethiopian House of Peoples' Representatives Tagesse Chafo in Tehran on Saturday, emphasizing that Iran is interested in enhancing relations with Ethiopia in all areas.

Realization of goals of strengthening relation between Iran and Ethiopia requires activating the Joint Cooperation Commission, accurately identifying common points, identifying complementary capacities, and moving towards dialogue, agreement, and understanding based on the mutual interests.

Purposeful use of existing institutional mechanisms can lead to the accelerated cooperation between the two countries, Pezeshkian underlined.

He went on to say that Iran is ready to expand its relations with Ethiopia in all fields including economic, diplomatic, cultural and security areas.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Pezeshkian referred to the joint membership of Iran and Ethiopia in the BRICS group of emerging economies, describing this multilateral framework as a valuable and strategic platform for expanding interactions, deepening economic and political ties, and countering unilateralist approaches in the international law.

BRICS can provide a new communication model based on mutual respect for national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and civilizations of countries, and also can pave the way for fair and balanced cooperation at the global level, the Iranian president emphasized.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to play a role in establishing and strengthening sustainable peace and security with a responsible approach with the participation of all countries in the region.

The speaker of the Ethiopian House of Peoples' Representatives, for his part, expressed his satisfaction of meeting with President Pezeshkian, emphasizing his country's interest in developing and strengthening relations with Iran, especially in the diplomatic, economic, and security fields.

The parliaments of the two countries are trying to pave suitable ways for increasing diplomatic cooperation and deepening bilateral relations, Tagese Chaffo added.

He pointed to the significance of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, adding that Ethiopia is determined to increase the level of economic exchanges, develop joint investment with Iran and effective use of high capacities of BRICS including new development bank of this organization for strengthening the foundations of financial and economic cooperation.

Turning to the extensive cultural and civilizational commonalities between the two nations, the Ethiopian parliament speaker considered the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in establishing and strengthening peace and security in West Asia ‘important’.

Ethiopia, like Iran, is also trying to play a constructive and responsible role in the African region, he said, adding that cooperation and interaction between the two countries in the field of peace and security can have a positive and lasting impact on stability in West Asia and the African continent.
