Pezeshkian leaves for Kazakhstan on official visit

President Masoud Pezeshkian has departed for Kazakhstan on a two-day visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

The president left Tehran on Wednesday afternoon and was seen off by several Iranian officials, including First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Justice, Culture and Islamic Guidance, and Roads and Urban Development are accompanying Pezeshkian on the trip.

During his planned talks with his Kazakh counterpart, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President Pezeshkian is set to discuss expanding cooperation in trade, the economy, transport, logistics, and cultural and humanitarian fields. The two leaders are expected to sign several cooperation agreements.

Before departing for Astana, Pezeshkian said his trip at the invitation of “esteemed and dear brother, Tokayev,” is a suitable opportunity and platform to deepen relations with Kazakhstan in different areas of mutual interest.

“Our relations with Muslim countries should be more intimate, extensive, and deeper based on our beliefs and convictions,” he said, stressing that the Muslim nations must help and share experiences with each other.

The president further noted that he would leave Kazakhstan for Turkmenistan on the second leg of his trip to Central Asia.

Pezeshkian has been invited by Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to attend the World Peace and Trust Forum, which is being held in Ashgabat. Several other heads of regional countries will also participate in the forum.

The Iranian president said the Ashgabat meeting would be a good opportunity to express views on international issues, as well as to have honest discussions with foreign leaders on peace and stability in the region and beyond.
