Venezuelan FM lauds Iran’s supportive stance

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela Yvan Gil has welcomed the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman’s position in supporting Venezuela’s right as an independent country and a defender of the United Nations Charter to protect its peace and sovereignty against external threats.

On behalf of President Nicolas Maduro, we send our most sincere greetings to the Islamic Republic of Iran for supporting Venezuela’s right as an independent country and a defender of the United Nations Charter to protect its peace and sovereignty against unjustified external threats, Gil said in a Telegram post appreciating Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei’s supportive stance.

He stressed solidarity and cooperation formed on the basis of mutual respect with Iran, which pave the way toward a multipolar world.

Earlier in a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Caracas Ali Chegeni, Gil had appreciated Tehran’s support for Venezuela against the US threats and emphasized that Venezuela and Iran would continue to support justice and peace diplomacy.

He pointed out that Venezuela and Iran would continue to support justice and peace diplomacy.

Addressing a press conference, Baqaei said Venezuela is a member state of the United Nations and has the inherent right to defend itself against any external threat and aggression.

There is no justification for threatening actions and the use of force against this country, he stated.

He warned that the measure by the US poses unprecedented risks to international aviation safety and could have dangerous consequences for the rule of law, as well as for global peace and security.

He urged the international community to take note of what he called a destabilizing step that undermines long-standing principles of international conduct.

President Trump said on Saturday that all airspace over and around Venezuela should be considered as fully closed, offering no additional details as Washington intensifies pressure on President Nicolas Maduro’s government.
