The event took place at Tarbiat Modares University in Tehran on Sunday to mark the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, observed annually on November 6.
During the seminar via videoconference, Mark Zeitoun, an expert from the Geneva Water Hub, discussed the role of water in armed conflicts.
He said that human beings use water as a tool, target, and victim, criticizing the misuse of water to harm civilians.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the analyst addressed the ongoing situation in Palestine, where most Gazans are deprived of water.
The author of “Reflections: Understanding Our Use and Abuse of Water” said that his book highlights how wars both victimize and weaponize water.
“We make deserts bloom and lakes dry,” he said, pointing out the irrational measures people take regarding water use.
