Iraq’s elections thwarted hostile plots: Velayati

Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, says the high turnout and political engagement seen in Iraq’s recent election marked an unprecedented achievement that reflected the country’s growing political maturity and helped neutralize attempts by hostile actors to undermine the process.

Velayati made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran on Saturday with Mohsen Hakim, a senior adviser to Ammar al-Hakim, leader of Iraq's National Wisdom Movement.

He said relations between Iran and Iraq remain strong, historic and deeply rooted, adding that the partnership continues to grow and serves as a source of optimism for the wider Muslim world.

Hakim briefed Velayati on post-election developments in Iraq, describing the large voter turnout as a major gain for the country.
