On Thursday, a resolution proposed by the European Troika, namely France, Britain, and Germany, with US support, against Iran’s peaceful nuclear program was adopted at the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors.
With this move and their disregard for Iran’s goodwill and engagement, these countries have damaged the credibility and independence of the IAEA and disrupted the process of interactions and cooperation between the Agency and Iran, Araghchi said on Thursday in reaction to the unlawful and unjustified action of three European countries and the United States in presenting an anti-Iranian resolution to the IAEA Board of Governors.
The resolution was adopted under pressure from these four countries despite 15 members voting against or abstaining.
He added that although the Cairo MoU had practically lost its basis in the relations between Iran and the Agency in the safeguards domain following the unlawful attempt by the three European countries at the UN Security Council to reinstate previously annulled resolutions, today a formal letter was sent to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi declaring that this understanding is no longer valid and is considered terminated.
In a related development, Reza Najafi, the permanent representative and ambassador of Iran to Vienna-based international organizations, said on Thursday that the adoption of the political and non-constructive resolution against Iran’s peaceful nuclear energy was an attempt by the US and the European troika to compensate for their defeat in the Snapback Mechanism in New York.
