Lavrov made the remarks in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Monday, in which the two sides discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.
Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s continued cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog while rejecting claims by certain Western countries about the activation of the so-called snapback mechanism. He said the IAEA must uphold its impartiality and avoid steps that could further heighten tensions.
The Iranian foreign minister also underscored the importance of dialogue and cooperation among regional countries, referring to his recent consultations with his regional counterparts.
Lavrov welcomed Iran’s regional diplomacy and signaled Moscow’s readiness for closer cooperation with Tehran.
