Gharibabadi referred to his meetings with Afghanistan’s Minister of Borders and Tribal Affairs Mullah Noorullah Noori, the Deputy Minister of Energy and Water, and the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, on border, water, and legal-judicial issues.
He wrote on his X account that he had reviewed strengthening border controls to prevent drug trafficking, human trafficking, and terrorist elements.
The two sides agreed to resume the project to renovate border markers, which has been halted for 7 years.
It was agreed that a joint technical and legal committee meeting would also be held simultaneously, focusing on the rapid resolution of ambiguous border points, he stated.
He stressed full implementation of the 1973 Helmand Treaty and fully securing Iran’s water rights according to this treaty, securing the environmental water right of the Hamoun wetlands, and determining the legal regime of Hari River.
Regarding Iran’s extradition requests for criminals, it was decided that Afghan nationals would be detained and tried by the relevant Afghan authorities, he noted.
He went on to say that the two sides decided to transfer the Afghan convicts to serve their sentences in Afghanistan.
