Baghdad pledges to implement security pact with Tehran

Iraq’s National Security Advisor reaffirmed his country’s commitment to fully implementing the terms of the security agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

A high-ranking Iraqi delegation led by Qasim al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor, met with Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, at the General Staff headquarters in Tehran.

At the beginning of the meeting, Major General Mousavi emphasized the deep brotherhood between the peoples of Iran and Iraq, saying that one of the main concerns of the Americans is precisely this bond of fraternity and solidarity, and the enemies well understand its positive effects and blessings.

Referring to the US occupation of Iraq, he added that if the recent aggressions by the Zionist regime and the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran had not occurred, Washington’s true intentions in seeking control over Iraq’s affairs might not have been fully revealed.

The Chief of Staff underlined the need for full implementation of the security agreement between the two neighboring countries.

Qasim al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor, emphasized the deep and special ties between the peoples of Iran and Iraq, saying that no one can undermine these strong bonds.

Referring to the recent 12-day war between Iran and Israel, al-Araji said that although several Iranian military commanders, scientists, and innocent civilians were martyred, the Iranian people, contrary to the enemy’s expectations, stood united alongside the armed forces, the government, and the Islamic Republic’s leadership. He added that this unity demonstrated the greatness and resilience of the Iranian nation.

Al-Araji reaffirmed his country’s commitment to fully implementing the terms of the security agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Emphasizing the need to enhance military, political, and economic cooperation to ensure greater regional stability, al-Araji underlined that both the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government recognize the importance of Iran’s security.

He stressed that no country will be permitted to use Iraqi territory to undermine the security of neighboring states, particularly the Islamic Republic of Iran

Also present at the meeting, the Minister of Interior of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region reiterated the region’s determination to enforce the agreement, including the disarmament of anti-Iran armed groups in northern Iraq. He added that the territory of the Kurdistan Region will not serve as a base for actions against Iran.

It is worth noting that al-Araji also held meetings a day earlier with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Major General Mohammad Pakpour, Commander of the IRGC Ground Forces, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
