Iran and Azerbaijan have great potential to enhance bilateral relations: Deputy foreign minister

Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, says Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan have a high capacity and potential for developing bilateral relations in various fields.

Gharibabadi posted a message on his X account after a meeting with Khalaf Khalafov, the special assistant of the President of Azerbaijan, late on Monday.

He said that a wide range of issues were discussed during the meeting, including bilateral relations, cooperation in the Caspian Sea region, the importance of peace and stability in the South Caucasus, and cooperation within the framework of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Pointing out that Iran and Azerbaijan have long-standing religious, cultural, and neighborly ties, Gharibabadi emphasized the will of high-ranking officials of the two countries to deepen and expand relations, utilizing their potential in the best possible way to achieve common interests and goals.

The senior Iranian diplomat also said that the two neighbors believe in addressing differences of opinion and misunderstandings through dialogue to remove obstacles to the development of comprehensive relations.

Earlier, Khalafov met with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and exchanged views on the strategic importance of peace and stability in the entire region.

The Azerbaijani President's Special Representative has described his meetings with Iranian officials as positive and constructive. The talks largely focused on the current state of bilateral relations, in particular the visits of the Iranian President to Azerbaijan, as well as prospects for the development of friendly and good-neighborly ties between the two countries.
