In an exclusive interview with IRNA on Saturday, Yazdanian said that the goals of Iran’s space industry are undergoing significant changes, marking the beginning of a new era for satellite services.
He said that the Nahid-2 satellite is set to be launched using a domestic rocket by the end of the Iranian month of Azar (December 21, 2025), adding that the Pajouhesh satellite series is expected to be launched by the end of next year (March 20, 2026).
Yazdanian pointed out that Iran has made numerous achievements in its space sector in recent years, and the country continues to enhance its position in the global arena.
He said, “Our designs, satellite manufacturing, launch operations, and all related activities are ultimately aimed at providing services for the public. This shift has taken place, and now all of the country’s space activities focus on delivering services to the people.”
He referred to the Nahid-2 satellite as the country’s most recent achievement, saying, Nahid-2, which is the nation’s first telecommunications satellite, was completely built using local resources. This communications satellite marks a significant step towards reaching Geostationary Orbit (GEO - 36,000 km) and testing our platform.”
The Nahid-2 communication satellite, developed by the Iranian Space Research Institute and the Iranian Space Agency (I.S.A.), launched into space aboard a Soyuz launch vehicle from Russia’s Vostochny Cosmodrome on July 25, 2025.
Yazdanian highlighted that the “Nahid-2” satellite represents a milestone for the space industry, expressing hope that the next version, the Nahid-3 satellite, will be ready soon.
He said that “Nahid-3” is an upgraded version of “Nahid-2”, featuring a platform designed for operation in Geostationary Orbit. Additionally, he noted that Nahid-3 will function as a telecommunications satellite.
