Gaza War and Billion-Dollar Surge in Aid

NOURNEWS – Over the past two years, the United States has provided more than $21.7 billion in military assistance to Israel — a figure five times higher than the annual average in previous years, reflecting the direct impact of the Gaza war and Tel Aviv’s deepening legitimacy crisis.

According to a new report by Brown University, between October 7, 2023, and September 24, 2025, the United States allocated over $21.7 billion in military aid to Israel. This represents a fivefold increase compared to the previous annual average of roughly $4 billion. Most of the funds were directed toward Foreign Military Financing ($8.12 billion), missile defense systems ($5 billion), and replacement of U.S. stockpiled weapons shipped to Israel ($4.4 billion). In addition, $801 million went to the purchase of munitions, $725 million to overseas logistics, and $198 million to expanding domestic weapons production capacity within the United States.

This unprecedented surge comes at a time when Washington is grappling with a budget crisis, widespread campus protests, and a deep political divide at home. Analysts at Brown University note that such an extensive level of financial support is designed not merely to maintain Israel’s military superiority, but to secure U.S. influence in the Middle East and sustain its deterrence project against the Axis of Resistance.

Yet the continuation of this policy could prove costly for Washington. The escalation of U.S. military aid to Israel — amid global outrage over the destruction in Gaza — has seriously undermined America’s moral standing. Many observers warn that rather than serving as a tool of deterrence, this strategy is becoming a driver of escalating security and humanitarian crises across the region.

In essence, the stark figures buried in America’s defense budgets reveal a clear picture of a costly war — one that has generated not greater security, but deeper moral and political fissures within the Western powers themselves.
