Expediency Council agrees to Iran’s conditional accession to the CFT

The Expediency Council has approved Iran’s accession to the Convention on Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) after a review of the bill that was approved by the Parliament.

Mohsen Dehnavi, the spokesperson for the council, made the announcement on his official X account on Wednesday.

He said that the Expediency Council agreed to Iran joining the CFT Convention conditionally in today’s meeting after thoroughly going through the details of the parliamentary legislation in the previous four rounds of meetings and the Joint Commission.

The CFT involves investigating, analyzing, deterring, and preventing sources of funding for terrorist activities. It is one of four bills connected to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

The FATF itself consists of 42 agreements, 40 of which had already been implemented in Iran in previous years following parliamentary approval and with the confirmation by the Guardian Council and Expediency Council.
