Mohsen Rezaei, former commander of the IRGC and member of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council, criticized the United States and Europe over the JCPOA and recent IAEA resolutions during a TV interview.
He described the snapback mechanism as “the end of Europe’s foreign policy on the international stage.
He emphasized the illegality of activating the snapback mechanism, stating that it could only have been applied if Iran had failed to meet its obligations. “For the past twenty years, we have been under continuous IAEA inspections and have never deviated from our commitments,” he added.
Rezaei reiterated that Iran has fully adhered to all its commitments under the JCPOA, while the other parties failed to meet theirs. “Therefore, invoking the snapback mechanism has no legal basis, and as China and Russia have also stated, this action is illegal and illegitimate,” he emphasized.
Referring to the recent failures of the US and Israeli regime in the 12-day imposed war, Rezaei added, “Had they not been defeated in the 12-day war against Iran, they would not have pursued the snapback. This clearly demonstrates that this move is a sign of the strategic failure of the enemy in recent months in confronting the Islamic Republic.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, he emphasized the need to redefine Iran’s red lines in foreign policy, stating, “The Islamic Republic has demonstrated its good faith to the US and Europe, and there is no longer any reason to enter into another fruitless negotiations.”
