President Pezeshkian:

Those responsible for the current situation are those who withdrew from the JCPOA

As part of his trip to New York, Masoud Pezeshkian met with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, and said: “My stance since the time of the presidential campaign has been national unity inside Iran and strengthening relations with the world. We have sought, and continue to seek, to enhance relations with all countries of the world, including European countries, based on mutual interests and mutual respect.”

Nournews: On Wednesday afternoon local time, during his meeting with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, Pezeshkian reiterated: “We have sought, and still seek, to expand relations with all countries of the world, including European ones, based on mutual interests and respect. However, since the very first day of my administration, the Zionist regime has tried to disrupt this path, and it continues to do so.”

The President emphasized that Iran has never sought war or conflict, adding: “The Islamic Republic of Iran desires constructive and friendly relations and is ready for dialogue and understanding to resolve problems, obstacles, and concerns in order to prevent the fueling of disputes.”

Pezeshkian underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran has firmly and repeatedly declared that it has never sought nuclear weapons, stressing: “We are ready to cooperate to provide transparency in this regard and to prove the falsehood of such allegations. Those responsible for the current situation are the ones who violated their commitments and withdrew from the JCPOA.”

The President further noted: “While world powers raise a huge outcry over a minor issue in a country like Iran, they remain silent in the face of the Zionist regime crossing all red lines. What crime or act of terror has the Islamic Republic of Iran committed? Have we assassinated the scientists of other countries, or are we ourselves among the greatest victims of terrorism?”

For his part, the President of the European Council expressed interest in strengthening ties with Iran and stressed: “Problems must be resolved through dialogue and understanding.”

Antonio Costa also pointed to the EU’s condemnation of Israel’s actions, saying that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is the most effective solution to the Palestinian issue, and that recognition of Palestine by the majority of European countries marks an important step in this direction.
