During the 21st strategic council meeting held in Tehran, Salehi-Amiri said that 160 million Chinese tourists travel abroad annually, a number projected to rise to 200 million by 2030.
Iran must secure its share of this market, he said, stressing the importance of attracting Chinese tourists.
The minister pointed out that attracting foreign tourists is essential for maintaining 1.6 million jobs, 22,000 accommodation centers, 6,000 travel agencies, and 15,000 tour guides.
He also identified Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Persian Gulf neighbors, particularly Iraq, as primary targets for tourism growth.
In 2023, Iran welcomed 6.2 million foreign tourists, with a goal of reaching 7.4 million in 2024. Despite a setback during the recent war imposed by the Israeli regime, Salehi Amiri expressed optimism about a tourism recovery and set a target of attracting 15 million foreign visitors, which would require an annual growth rate of 19.5%.
Moreover, he underscored the importance of engaging with Iranians abroad, viewing them as a vital resource for social, cultural, and economic transformation.
