Iran, Russia presidents highlight strengthening ties via long-term pact

President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have emphasized the importance of implementing the Treaty on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Iran and Russia.

The two presidents met on the sidelines of the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, on Monday.

Pezeshkian described the Russia-Iran treaty as a foundation for expanding cooperation and enhancing bilateral relations. He noted that collaboration within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) would further speed up and foster these developments.

The Iranian president highlighted his personal commitment to removing obstacles and speeding up the execution of all agreements with Russia.

He also stressed the value of scientific and academic exchanges, noting that such cooperation creates a platform for broader, multifaceted interactions.

Pezeshkian highlighted the SCO summit, emphasizing the role of international institutions like the SCO in advancing multilateral cooperation in the face of attempts by the US and its allies to enhance unilateralism.

Putin sent greetings and well-wishes to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and reaffirmed that relations between Iran and Russia are friendly and growing.

The Russian president pointed to a significant increase in bilateral trade, a rise in Iranian students studying in Russia, and the expanding cultural and tourism cooperation. He also emphasized ongoing dialogue on regional and international issues, as well as the Iranian peaceful nuclear program.
