Journalists convey truth, amplify people's voices: Administration spokesperson

Fatemeh Mohajerani, the administration spokesperson, has congratulated media personnel on the National Journalists’ Day, saying that the event marks a significant day in Iran’s calendar as the nation commemorates the memory of martyr Mahmoud Saremi, an IRNA journalist who bravely sacrificed his life in the pursuit of truth.

Mohajerani made the comments in a memo published in “Iran Newspaper” on Saturday. Iran celebrates the National Journalists’ Day on August 8.

She said that this day serves as a reminder not only of the courage displayed by journalists but also of the vital responsibility they carry: “to convey the truth, amplify the voices of the people, and protect awareness.”

According to the spokesperson, journalism is not merely a profession, it embodies a profound ethical, social, and national commitment. Journalists act as the eyes and ears of society, reporting on realities and guiding decision-making through their inquiries, she wrote.

She went on to say that media people are essential to the health of democracy, ensuring that public opinion is heard and that transparency prevails. Hence, without free and accountable journalists, the call for transparency remains an empty slogan, she added.

Referring to the current situation in the region and media campaign against the Islamic Republic, Mohajerani said that in the face of complex regional challenges and media warfare, the role of journalists is more crucial than ever, as they combat misinformation and biased narratives through their professional and ethical reporting.

She extended her gratitude to those journalists who carry out their duties with courage, often under the most challenging conditions

The spokesperson also pointed to the commitment of President Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration, noting that it is dedicated to creating a safe and free environment for the media, ensuring equal access to information, and rejecting any illegal pressure, because journalists are partners in governance, and officials welcome constructive criticism as it clarifies the path for effective policymaking.

She concluded that journalists have the power to bridge divides and foster national unity through fair reporting and constructive synergy.
