Foreign minister warns against ongoing ‘destructive approach’ by certain European countries

Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has criticized certain European countries for failing to condemn attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, warning that continued “destructive approach” by certain European countries risks escalating tensions and making diplomatic efforts more difficult.

Araqchi held a phone call with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre late on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations and the latest developments in the West Asia region following the military aggression by the Israeli regime and the US against Iran.

The top Iranian diplomat emphasized the necessity for the international community and the United Nations Security Council to hold the US and the Israeli regime accountable for their military aggression against Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as their violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and peremptory norms of international law.

He stressed the necessity for the international community and the UN Security Council to hold the US and the Israeli regime accountable for their military aggression against Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as their violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and peremptory norms of international law.

“The illegal US-Israeli aggressions, conducted during indirect Iran-US negotiations, dealt a fatal blow to diplomacy,” Araqchi said.

Reaffirming Iran’s resolve to defend its national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and legitimate rights, Araqchi said, “As demonstrated during the 12-day patriotic defense, the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are fully prepared to counter any adventurist move by the Zionist regime and its supporters with all their might.”

The top diplomat criticized certain European nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief for failing to condemn attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, warning that such support for aggressors risks escalating tensions and undermining diplomatic efforts.

Araqchi noted that Iran has suspended cooperation with the IAEA due to safety concerns, with future engagements to be managed solely by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. However, he reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Norwegian Prime Minister, for his part, emphasized the importance of preventing conflict and reducing regional tensions, advocating for a diplomatic resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue and broader efforts to promote stability.
