Just like the previous rounds, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US President Donald Trump's regional envoy Steve Witkoff are leading the negotiating delegations in the talks which began on Friday.
The talks are mediated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, and a number of other diplomats and experts were among the members of the delegation accompanying Araghchi.
Since April, Tehran and Washington have held four rounds of indirect negotiations in Rome and Muscat over Iran’s nuclear program amid repeated shifts in US stances, which have prompted Iranian officials to criticize the “contradictory” statements made by their Americans counterparts.
Before departure, Araghchi reiterated Iran’s resolve to continue its uranium enrichment program and stressed that there would be no deal if the US side stuck with an excessive demand to slash Iran’s legitimate right to enrichment to zero.
“Figuring out the path to a deal is not rocket science: Zero nuclear weapons = we DO have a deal. Zero enrichment = we do NOT have a deal,” Araghchi wrote on X.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also said Tehran’s goal and goalpost remain unchanged.
Baghaei said Iran's nuclear program is the result of a “long-term perseverance, resistance and resilience” by a nation that takes pride in its hard-won achievements.
The Iranian people now expect their diplomats to stand firm and hold fast to their rights and interests.
