“Russia believes that the U.S. and Iran should resolve all problems through negotiations,” Peskov said.
The spokesperson voiced Russia’s readiness to do everything it can to achieve this objective.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order to restore his maximum pressure policy against Iran, further complicating the prospect of diplomacy with Tehran, which has ruled out negotiations under pressure and threats.
Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg also reported on Tuesday that Russia has agreed to assist the Trump administration in communication with Iran on a range of issues, including the country’s nuclear program.
President Trump raised that specter with President Vladimir Putin in a phone call in February, and senior U.S. officials discussed the matter with their Russian counterparts during talks in Saudi Arabia days later.
Following talks in Riyadh, Washington and Moscow said they would work toward ending the war in Ukraine and improving their diplomatic ties.
