The General Assembly approved the resolution titled "Advancing Comprehensive, Just, and Sustainable Peace in Ukraine," which calls for de-escalation, the immediate cessation of hostilities, and a peaceful resolution to the war against Ukraine.
The Ukraine resolution was adopted during the 11th emergency special session of the UN General Assembly, which convened to discuss the situation in Ukraine and explore potential pathways to peace in the region. The resolution demands the immediate withdrawal of all Russian forces from Ukraine on the third anniversary of the war.
The vote, conducted by the 193 member states of the United Nations, which does not have legally binding resolutions, is seen as reflecting global opinion. In the vote, 93 countries voted in favor, 18 voted against, and 65 abstained. This result was lower than previous resolutions, where over 140 countries had condemned Russia and called for the annulment of the annexation of four Ukrainian regions by Russia.
The General Assembly also approved the "Path to Peace" resolution with amendments, in which 93 countries voted in favor, 8 voted against, and 73 abstained.
The General Assembly adopted all proposed amendments by Europe to the U.S. resolution on Ukraine but rejected Russia's proposed amendment, which sought to alter the text of the U.S. resolution marking the anniversary of the Ukraine war.
