Eslami: 70 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity injected into Iran’s electricity network

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has announced the injection of 70 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity into the country’s electrical network. He stated that approximately 105 million barrels of oil, equivalent to 8 billion dollars, have been saved for the production of this amount of atomic electricity in the first unit of the Bushehr Power Plant, while only 1.8 billion dollars have been invested in its startup.

Nournews: Mohammad Eslami made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian entrepreneurs. Referring to the advantages of using peaceful nuclear energy to meet the country’s various needs, he said, “Each kilogram of heavy water is worth about 1,000 dollars, from which approximately 300 derivatives are obtained. Sometimes, each gram of these derivatives costs more than 10,000 dollars. The value chain and knowledge-based economy fall into the same category.”

The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization added, “The first unit of the Bushehr Power Plant has injected 70 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity into the country’s electricity network. For the production of this amount of atomic power, approximately 105 million barrels of oil, equivalent to 8 billion dollars, have been saved, while only 1.8 billion dollars have been invested.”

He continued, “Each ton of methanol derived from heavy water is worth about 1,200,000 dollars, while methanol produced by petrochemicals costs less than 500 dollars.” He further stated, “According to licenses by Western countries, including the United States, our heavy water has the highest purity.”

Eslami said that Iran’s share of the heavy water market in the world is about 12.5 percent, adding, “If we want to sell it, our market share will increase because of high demand.”
