Deep divide between public opinion and American political elites on supporting Israel

A controversial poll in the US: People are tired of high costs for Israeli regime!

NOURNEWS – A majority of Americans believe that the US government spends too much on Israel, according to a recent poll, revealing a deep divide between public opinion and the foreign policies of political elites, and highlighting the need for a reevaluation of these policies.

The Ipsos poll shows that a majority of Americans (53%) believe the US government spends too much on Israel. This statistic exposes a clear gap between public opinion and political elites, particularly within the Republican and Democratic parties. Analysis of the data based on age, race, income, and party affiliation reveals a profound mismatch between popular priorities and US foreign policies.

Generational and racial divide

Young adults (aged 18-29) and middle-aged individuals (aged 30-44) are the most critical, with 60% believing that the US spends too much on Israel. This indicates a shift in the perspective of new generations towards Washington's traditional policies.

Conversely, those over 60 years old (43%) are less dissatisfied with this issue, possibly due to their more traditional views on the strategic relationship between the US and Israel.

Racial disparities are also evident, with 64% of Hispanics and 54% of African Americans expressing the most concern about the high costs of the US government's support for Israel. In contrast, 49% of white Americans share this view. These differences underscore the role of social and cultural factors in shaping attitudes towards foreign policy.

Impact of economic status

Data analysis based on income levels indicates that individuals earning less than $50,000 (56%) strongly believe that U.S. government spending on Israel is excessive. This group, which often struggles with economic challenges, considers the allocation of financial resources to domestic priorities to be more essential. While this perspective diminishes with increasing income levels, even among those earning over $100,000, 52% still believe that the expenditures are too high.

Political party disagreement

From a partisan perspective, 61% of Democrats believe that the United States spends too much on Israel, while only 47% of Republicans and 37% of independents share this view. This highlights a notable discrepancy between Democratic Party leaders, who often support unconditional aid to the Israeli regime, and the party's grassroots. Additionally, independents, who constitute a significant portion of the electorate, have shown less concern but still have a notable percentage opposing these policies.

Political implications

Analyzing the statistics from this reputable poll presents significant challenges for American politicians. On the one hand, continuing unconditional support for the Israeli regime will lead to growing distrust between the grassroots and political elites. On the other hand, this disagreement can negatively impact voter turnout, especially among young people and various racial groups.

Democrats, who have shown a clear divide between their leaders and grassroots in this poll, face the most risk. If the party fails to address the concerns of its grassroots, it may continue to experience reduced support in future elections.

This poll clearly indicates that American foreign policies, particularly towards the Israeli regime, require serious reconsideration. The disregard of political elites for the gap between their views and public opinion is a critical issue. Ignoring this gap and continuing policies that are opaque and inconsistent with the priorities of American citizens can lead to increased dissatisfaction and even street protests.

Given the domestic economic crises and concerns over unfair resource allocation, it is expected that the Trump administration will undertake a serious review to reform the current policies, especially considering the widespread public resentment in America and globally towards the Israeli regime's actions in Gaza.
