Nournews: Kazem Jalali, Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, in an interview, noted that the agreement on the comprehensive strategic partnership between Iran and Russia would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between Tehran and Moscow.
The Russian news agency Novosti reported that Jalali, in his interview with the agency, mentioned that the agreement includes a clause on respecting territorial integrity and consists of 47 articles and a preamble aimed at ensuring balanced cooperation between the two nations.
This document, after being signed by the government, will be submitted to the Iranian Parliament for approval.
Jalali remarked, “In my view, our relations will expand in many areas, and this agreement will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to the development and deepening of our ties.”
Earlier, the Kremlin announced that a meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin would take place on January 17 (Dey 28). Discussions are expected to focus on the prospects for bilateral cooperation and current regional and international issues.
Following the talks, the parties will sign the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement and issue a joint press statement.
This agreement is set to replace the existing bilateral cooperation document signed in Moscow in 2001.
In his conversation with Novosti, Jalali further noted, “With the signing of this agreement, we are likely to see a new level of trade volume between the two countries for several reasons. First, the agreement facilitates and accelerates certain aspects of our economic relations.
Second, we already have serious cooperation in some economic areas. Third, we are collaborating within BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Lastly, the free trade agreement we signed with the Eurasian Economic Union, of which Russia is the largest economy, will play a crucial role. By 2025, our economic relations in these areas are expected to grow significantly.”
According to the ambassador, the new agreement also includes cultural cooperation, particularly in education, exchange programs for students and teachers, and collaboration in the field of technology.
He added that the trade volume between Iran and Russia is predicted to surpass $4 billion, according to Tehran’s estimates.
Regarding the signing of the agreement, Jalali stated, “We have decided to sign only one comprehensive strategic partnership agreement during this visit. However, there are various other agreements in different fields that officials from both countries will sign at a later date.”
The Iranian ambassador in Moscow also highlighted the agreement’s impact on regional dynamics in West Asia, saying, “This agreement will undoubtedly have an impact because Iran is a strong and influential country in the region, and Russia is a major global power. Therefore, it is natural that both countries focus their full capabilities on maintaining stability and security in the region.”
