The legacies of Gen. Soleimani

The resistance movement is still at the forefront of safeguarding the security of the region and is considered an undeniable variable in the political and defensive equation in West Asia, five years after the martyrdom of Gen. Soleimani.

Nournews: Five years have passed since the martyrdom of General Qassem Soleimani, a senior and main commander in the fight against foreign invading forces and terrorist groups dependent on the dominance system, without obvious signs of erosion in an effective force called the “Resistance Front.”
The force is still at the forefront of safeguarding the security of the region and is considered an undeniable variable in the political and defensive equation in West Asia.

Although the absence of prominent and top-tier commanders such as Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, Haj Qassem Soleimani, Yahya Sinwar, and Ismail Haniyeh was a fatal wound to the body of the resistance movement, its internal dynamism and self-healing power have been so strong that it has been able to play a role even in the absence of its top-tier and impactful figures.

It is simplistic to think that the existence or non-existence of geniuses such as G. Soleimani has been ineffective in the resistance movement. However, the notion is that the martyred general established the structure of the resistance movement in such a way that it can continue its survival and leadership even in the absence of its vanguard and senior commanders.

It seems that the approach and model of resistance, at least at the theoretical level and as manifested in the character and practical conduct of G. Soleimani, possess three characteristics:

The resistance movement is not merely a series of material and hardware forces organized exclusively in the form of armies and combat units. Resistance is an idea, a discourse, a model, and even a lifestyle whose roots deeply reach into faith-based states and religious beliefs.
It possesses a public and people-based nature, and its actions are not limited to professional army forces. Unlike classic wars that are based on the fighting and logistical capabilities of professional armed forces, the resistance movement is supported and encouraged by broad masses of people.
The popularization of the resistance leads to its invincibility and immortality by force. G. Soleimani, by virtue of his popular and people-oriented personality, created the strongest motivations among his audience for membership in an unofficial army. It is not untrue to claim that the model of resistance narrated by G. Soleimani was more like “civil resistance” than “military resistance,” as its roots and goals were to make a peaceful and honorable life for the people in the region.

It is not something emerging and spontaneous but rather the continuation of a long-standing tradition. By the decree that the Islamic Republic of Iran was itself one of the manifestations of cultural, innovative resistance against global waves, it manifested this steadfastness and resistance at different stages. By this definition, one can understand the resistance movement as one of the objective manifestations of the revolution that has gained its legitimacy from its inherent slogans.
