From Gaza to Damascus: Double standards of Western human rights

NOURNEWS – The history of actions and movements by Western countries in similar crises indicates that their promises to the people of Syria are more an effort to cleanse their own track record and cover up past crimes than a genuine response to the needs of the Syrian people.

The crisis in Gaza, due to the ongoing crimes of the Zionist regime and the slaughter of defenseless women and children, as well as the dire living conditions of the people, has become one of the significant issues capturing global public attention.

In such circumstances, the Syrian crisis has also added to the developments in the West Asian region, becoming a new focal point for the involvement of regional and global actors.

The increased activity of Western countries concerning the Syrian crisis raises significant questions and ambiguities.

Leaders of Western countries such as Germany, the UK, France, and the United States, who have taken almost no effective action to send humanitarian aid to Gaza, have spoken of allocating humanitarian budgets and supporting the reconstruction of Syria.

In this context, the European Commission has also announced the establishment of a humanitarian air bridge to deliver urgent aid to Syria.

Western double standards

Support for Terrorism and Economic Sanctions: For over a decade, the United States and some Western countries have exacerbated the destruction of Syria and committed widespread atrocities against its people by instrumentally using terrorist groups such as Daesh and Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham. At the same time, they have imposed severe sanctions like the "Caesar Act" on Syria, resulting in economic, livelihood, and healthcare disasters.

Neglect of Syrian Refugees: The West, which now presents itself as a supporter of the Syrian people, has previously refused to accept Syrian refugees and has adopted a discriminatory approach towards them. Millions of Syrians live under extremely difficult conditions in camps in neighboring countries, while the West has evaded its humanitarian responsibilities under various pretexts.

Support for Israeli Aggressions: While the Israeli regime continues to occupy vast areas of Syrian territory and destroy the military infrastructure of the country, Western countries not only fail to respond but also collaborate with these actions. The silence of the West regarding Israeli aggressions, coupled with efforts to portray a humanitarian image in support of the people of this region, underscores a double standard that calls into question the sincerity of Western nations.

Humanitarian show or a new scenario?

The history of actions and movements by Western countries in similar crises indicates that the promises of these countries to the Syrian people, more than being a real response to the needs of this country, are an effort to cleanse their own records and cover up past crimes. Just as Western promises of reconstruction and support for democracy in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya led to more crises and insecurity, similar claims are now being made in Syria.

Undoubtedly, the display of support for the Syrian people is an attempt to cover up the record of supporting terrorists and imposing economic sanctions on Syria, and to divert public opinion from the ongoing occupation and crimes of the Zionist regime in this country.

Future implications

The dual policies of the West and the design of a new scenario to continue support for terrorists can pose serious dangers to the future of Syria and other countries in the region. On the other hand, the return of refugees to a Syria that is experiencing extremely dire conditions in terms of stability and security could lead to new humanitarian disasters in the future.

The future of the Syrian people, who are now without a central government and facing foreign interventions, is like a rudderless boat in the stormy ocean of insecurity and instability, and it cannot be determined by Western countries.

The West's issue in the Syrian context is not about democracy, freedom, or human rights, as many of the non-democratic government in the region are strategic allies of the United States and Western countries.

The only goal the West is pursuing in Syria is to increase its dominance and influence in the region and to secure the Zionist regime, which has no relation to the interests of the people of this country.
