Eslami: We will build nuclear reactors in coastal provinces

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said, in line with the goals set to achieve 20,000 megawatts of nuclear power production and the construction of nuclear reactors in coastal provinces, planning has been carried out.

Mohammad Eslami, during a meeting with the governor of Golestan Province, elaborated on the plans and policies of the AEOI aimed at achieving these goals.

He discussed the comprehensive strategic plan and the land use studies conducted by the organization in this province.

Regarding the AEOI’s plans in Golestan Province, Eslami said, "To achieve the production of 20,000 megawatts of nuclear power and the construction of nuclear reactors, steps have been taken in Golestan to select suitable sites for the establishment of nuclear power plants, initiate environmental studies, and conduct geological surveys at the proposed site for the construction of the power plant."

The head of the AEOI further emphasized the importance of developing radiation technology across the country, stating: "In Golestan Province, plans have been made to develop radiation technology. Necessary actions have been taken to purchase land for the construction and operation of the Northeast Radiation Processing Complex in Golestan, aimed at serving the agricultural sector, increasing the shelf life of products without the use of chemicals, pest control, seed improvement, and more."

Eslami added, "Initial coordination has also been made to expand the use of nuclear technology in the healthcare sector of Golestan Province, such as sterilizing single-use medical, health, and treatment products. This province will benefit from nuclear technology expertise in the fields of industry and the environment."

He also stressed the importance of provincial cooperation to facilitate administrative processes.

The governor of Golestan Province, in the meeting, expressed gratitude for the implementation of the AEOI’s policies and plans in the province, stating: "The actions taken represent a significant step towards sustainable development in the province, adding value to agricultural production, contributing to public health, and creating jobs."

Alireza Tahmasebi stated, "We will fully support and collaborate with the AEOI to achieve the planned goals and policies."
