Aggressive Europe: Powerful or Illusory?

European countries have dismissed Iran’s goodwill and chosen the path of conflict. They must prepare themselves for the consequences of this non-constructive and entirely political move. The consequences of such a move will affect parties that do not intend to exit from the illusion of power and do not want to replace it with wisdom and respect.

Nournews: The recent trip of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, to Tehran, during which he met with and held constructive talks with top Iranian officials, raised hopes for increasing technical and legal interactions between Iran and the agency in advance of the quarterly meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors (IAEA BoG). However, the political behavior and animosity of some European countries that have turned the BoG into a tool for more pressure on Iran affected these advancements and increased the likelihood of issuing an anti-Iran resolution, leading to fresh challenges faced by Iran and the agency.

Despite Iran’s attempts to create a suitable atmosphere for collaboration with the agency, the behavior of some Western countries is still a serious obstacle in the way of Iran-agency technical and legal collaborations. Grossi’s trips to Tehran and his constructive talks with top Iranian officials showed that the two parties are determined to solve disagreements, remove misunderstandings, and try to expand an atmosphere based on mutual trust by increasing the level of their collaborations.

However, the behavior of some European countries, which want to exploit Iran’s peaceful nuclear program politically, threatens these advancements.

The drafted anti-Iran resolution in the BoG not only does not help to solve any problems but also makes the situation more complicated and increases tensions. Mikhail Ivanovich Ulyanov, the Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organisations in Vienna, has said that it appears certain Western countries have put aside diplomacy and are seeking escalations. Referring to the anti-Iran resolution draft presented at the Board of Governors meeting, Ulyanov described the move by three European countries as unthoughtful and posted on his official X account: “We can wait for a very serious talk about Iran in the Board of Governors. Certain Western countries committed a big mistake that will have very negative consequences.” He emphasized, “It seems they have put aside diplomacy and are counting on escalations.”

Although certain European countries had previously shown animosity towards Iran and countries spared no efforts to pressure Iran in different political, economic, and defensive aspects, given the complexities governing West Asia and the future development of the international system, Iran will not be the loser if they choose the path of conflict with Iran. However, the complexities governing Iran-West relations will increase.

The non-wise politics chosen by European countries in support of the Zionist regime, warmongering in Ukraine, and using the IAEA as an instrument is the result of wrong calculations that prevent peace and security in the region and the world, with the main loser, as it has been so far, being Europe.

Some European countries have dismissed Iran’s goodwill and chosen the path of conflict. They must prepare themselves for the consequences of this non-constructive and entirely political move. The consequences of such a move will affect parties that do not intend to exit from the illusion of power and do not want to replace it with wisdom and respect.

Concerning America’s breach of trust and the inaction of Europe in executing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran must seek demand and be the claimant. Undoubtedly, Iran will resist the illegal pressures and will use all its potential to defend its nuclear rights. However, the window of opportunity that the Islamic Republic of Iran has opened for creating changes in the current unstable situation will not be open forever, and its consequences will affect those parties that do not intend to exit from the illusion of power and replace animosity and ransom-seeking with wisdom and respect.
