Iran unveils first homegrown hexarobot, 'Hexa', to revolutionize rehabilitation

Iranian researchers have unveiled the country's first physiotherapy robot, dubbed "Hexa", designed to improve the lives of the elderly and people with mobility impairments. The robot, an "exoskeleton" device, was showcased at the first ideation event focused on innovation in elderly welfare, health, and wellness in Mashhad.

Developed by researchers from Ferdowsi University's Robotics Research Center and Mashhad University of Medical Sciences' Orthopedic Research Center, Hexa is a wearable device that aims to enhance rehabilitation and mobility for individuals with limited hexaAccording to the project manager, Alireza Akbarzadeh Tootonchi, the robot's introduction marks a significant step forward in addressing the growing need for innovative healthcare technologies, particularly in light of Iran's aging population.

Weighing in at a mere fraction of its foreign counterparts, Hexa boasts an array of features, including adjustable settings for different users, advanced motors, and precise sensors. The robot utilizes electromyography sensors and motion sensors to detect the user's intent and needs, providing necessary support through intelligent algorithms.

Tootonchi highlighted the robot's advanced features, including the FUM-IMU motion measurement sensors and FUM-Insole smart insoles, which provide detailed information on limb movements and foot pressure, enhancing the robot's control and user safety. These components, combined with the FUM-Driver motor controllers, form a comprehensive and integrated system for robotic rehabilitation.
