Nournews: A quadrilateral ministerial meeting with the presence of Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of China, Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister of Russia, and Khawaja Asif, the Defense Minister of Pakistan, was held on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly summit.
The meeting focused on coordinating efforts to engage with Afghan officials in order to promote peace and stability in the country.
Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, had earlier stated that approximately 23.7 million people are still in urgent need of assistance. Afghanistan's Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for 2024 has provided 24.9% of the required $3.06 billion by August 30, with millions of people, particularly women and children, being affected.
Iravani emphasized that the situation in Afghanistan is a serious concern for neighboring countries directly impacted by the humanitarian crisis.
Additionally, Iravani highlighted that Iran, in particular, is facing challenges due to illegal immigration. Since U.S. forces left Afghanistan irresponsibly, Iran has been under immense pressure from mass illegal immigration.
More than 6 million Afghans live in Iran, with an annual cost exceeding $10 billion, but the international community has largely ignored their urgent needs, Iravani said.
He stressed that the international community must provide sufficient support to countries like Iran and Pakistan that are continuously facing challenges related to Afghanistan.
