International message of Tehran's ACD amid elections

NOURNEWS – The 19th meeting of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) foreign ministers was held in Tehran on June 24, 2024. Attendees, included 41 delegations from 31 Asian countries and 9 international organizations, shared their views on developing comprehensive relationships and achieving the group's goals.

This summit took place in Iran as the country prepared for early elections following the passing of its president and foreign minister. The successful hosting of the meeting demonstrated the robust and foundational structure of the Islamic Republic, which continued its plans and commitments without interruption.

Notably, the presence of senior officials at the summit symbolized global confidence in Iran's political stability. It showed that changes in the executive structure wouldn't affect Iran's regional and global interactions, and its expanding relationships would continue seamlessly.

This global confidence in Iran was evident in the individual consultations of attending countries with the acting foreign minister and other executive officials. In addition, Iran and Bahrain took a new and positive step toward fully restoring relations and concluding negotiations on releasing Iran's assets in Bahrain.

The positions presented at the summit reflected a broad and comprehensive effort by countries to shift the international system from a Western unipolarity to multilateralism. Despite close ties with the U.S., many countries at the summit stressed the need for a fair multipolar world and greater regional institutions like the ACD. The Islamic Republic has various initiatives and proposals to achieve this, discussed at ACD, D-8, BRICS, and Shanghai Cooperation Organization meetings.

Another important aspect of this summit was the unanimous support for Palestine and opposition to the Zionist regime, as well as the censorship of the summit by foreign Persian-language media.

Observers believe that the Tehran summit, alongside showcasing Iran's successful and pragmatic diplomacy, could pave the way for new developments in the region and the international system.
