Grossi: Efforts to revive the JCPOA have failed

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said: "There have been efforts here in Vienna to revive it (the JCPOA), but unfortunately, despite coming close to success, they have failed for reasons that are unclear to me."

NOURNEWS: IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, despite the recent adoption of a resolution against Iran at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, claimed that this body does not pursue an anti-Iranian policy and reiterated the request for Tehran's cooperation.

In an interview today with the Russian media outlet Izvestia, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated that the JCPOA currently holds no real meaning because, in reality, no one is adhering to it.

Grossi said, "I believe we must return to diplomacy. We had the JCPOA, but now it is just an agreement on paper that no one abides by."

He added, "There have been efforts here in Vienna to revive it (the JCPOA), but unfortunately, despite coming close to success, they failed for reasons that are unclear to me because I was not directly involved in this process. It is no surprise that the US and Iran blame each other for this failure."

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency also said that Iran must allow IAEA inspectors access to its facilities to reach a new agreement, disregarding Iran's cooperation with this body.

The IAEA Board of Governors recently adopted an anti-Iranian statement based on these claims, urging Iran to increase its cooperation with this international body.

A week later, France Press reported that the Islamic Republic of Iran informed the IAEA of its development of nuclear capabilities, which the European troika interpreted as Tehran's response to the anti-Iranian resolution, and they issued a statement condemning it.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry, while calling the European trio's statement baseless and invalid, emphasized that "Iran's peaceful nuclear activities are not reactionary and will continue based on the national nuclear development plan within the framework of international rights and obligations."
