Global calls for halt to Rafah invasion can’t be ignored: UN

The United Nations Deputy Secretary General for Emergency and Humanitarian Affairs warned that humanitarian aid to the southern part of Gaza has hampered since the Israeli regime launched its invasion of Rafah, adding that international protests for an immediate end to the attack on Rafah are too loud to be ignored.

According to IRNA's Sunday morning report citing some media outlets, Martin Griffiths described the military operation in Rafah as "an indescribable tragedy", saying the ground operation has displaced more than 800,000 Palestinian war victims who had taken refuge in this city.

Griffiths wrote on his X social media account: “The attack on Rafah ended the flow of aid to the southern parts of Gaza and crippled humanitarian operations to the point of failure”.

He also noted that the Israeli attack on Rafah has halted the distribution of food and fuel for the vehicles that were delivering aid to different parts of Gaza. “Civilians should be allowed to seek safety and the entry of humanitarian aid should be unhindered."

Griffiths, meanwhile, welcomed a recent resolution at the United Nations Security Council in support of humanitarian personnel and UN staff active in this region, as well as the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering Israel stop its military operation in the city of Rafah and reopen the Rafah crossing.

“This is a moment for transparency,” the UN official reacted on the ICJ ruling, adding that “we must respect the laws of war that everyone is required to follow”.
