Bahraini official: Bahrain, Iran set to restore diplomatic relations soon

Deputy Speaker of the Bahraini Parliament, Abdul Nabi Salman, said Saturday that with Russia's support, relations between Manama and Tehran will soon be restored with respect for good neighborliness.

Bahraini lawmaker Abdulnabi Salman said in an interview that the process of resuming relations with Iran has met with a positive response from the government and people of Bahrain, and the Bahraini parliament has also issued a statement welcoming this move.

The Bahraini MP added that, "The revival of political and commercial relations between these two neighboring countries is an important issue; Because Iran is a neighboring country and we support the unity and stability of all countries in the region."

He added that, "We are the closest country to Iran compared to other countries of the Persian Gulf, and Iranian citizens live in Bahrain and vice versa, and trade exchanges between the two countries go on for several decades.

The deputy speaker of Bahraini Parliament further stressed that the restoration of relations requires the expected support of Russia to play the role of mediator between Tehran and Manama; Because Russia has direct interests in the stability of the region and enjoys strong relations with the countries of the Persian Gulf.

These statements come after the visit of the foreign minister of Bahrain to Tehran to take part in the funeral ceremony of the martyred President Ayatollah Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, as well as the recent visit of the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Moscow, where he called for the restoration of diplomatic relations between his country and Iran.
