NOURNEWS: Hussein Awadh recently met with Martyr Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on the sidelines of the 15th meeting of the heads of the Islamic Collaboration Organization held in Gambia.
In that meeting, Martyr Amir-Abdollahian stated that Iran was against any foreign meddling in Sudan’s affairs and expressed Iran’s readiness to help Sudan restore peace and stability to the country.
Awadh, for his part, expressed hope that the level of ties between the two countries would increase.
After years of a halt in relations between the two nations, the former Foreign Minister of Sudan also traveled to Tehran last year and met with Martyr Amir-Abdollahian.
The Islamic Republic of Iran and Sudan released a joint statement on October 23, 2023, saying they would resume their diplomatic ties.
After the attack on the Saudi Arabian embassy and consulate in Tehran in December 2015, which resulted in the unilateral suspension of Saudi Arabian ties with Iran, Sudan also cut its diplomatic relations with Iran, following Saudi Arabia’s decision.
