Raisi: Hydro-electricity projects will be implemented in more than 20 countries by Iranians

The technical and engineering expertise for the Uma Oya multi-purpose project was provided by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

NOURNEWS: Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Uma Oya multi-purpose project in Sri Lanka, President Ebrahim Raisi stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran will execute hydro-electricity initiatives and projects in more than 20 countries worldwide, relying on its engineering and technical capabilities.

He described the Uma Oya multi-purpose project as an Iranian engineering masterpiece in the heart of Sri Lanka. He stated, "Accepting the invitation of the respected Sri Lankan president to inaugurate the symbol of the two countries' friendship is a source of honor for me." "More important than the two countries' big and multi-purpose project is the will of the two countries to enjoy well-being and create better living conditions." The president clarified that the financing of the project was provided by Sri Lanka, while the technical and engineering expertise was provided by the Islamic Republic of Iran. He expressed that the pursuit of this project was on the part of our friendly country, Sri Lanka, and the transfer of Iranian knowledge and expertise to the land of Sri Lanka took place.

President stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran, boasting of technical and engineering capabilities, will implement more than 20 hydroelectricity projects across the world. “Western countries wanted to convey that knowledge and technology are only in their hands, but our capable and skilled Iranian experts and scientists are doing great jobs not only across Asia but also in regional countries.” He said Iran aims at the expansion of ties with Asian and independent neighboring countries. “Iran and Sri Lanka can have mutual and constructive ties as an independent Asian nation," Raisi said, adding that Iran is ready to help Sri Lanka in the way of progress.

Sri Lanka opens multi-purpose project in presence of Raisi

The 120 MW Uma Oya project has two dams and a 19-kilometer water transmission pipe. The power plant of this project is located at a depth of 750 meters.

The Uma Oya multi-purpose project irrigates 5 thousand hectares of Sri Lankan agricultural lands.

Raisi arrives in Sri Lanka

Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday after wrapping up his official visit to Pakistan. During his three-day trip to Pakistan, he met with top officials, signed bilateral documents, and toured Lahore and Karachi cities.

Raisi's visit to Sri Lanka follows an invitation from his Sri Lankan counterpart and aims to reach favorable agreements and participate in the inauguration of the Uma Oya project.

Upon arrival, he received a warm welcome from Sri Lankan officials. Raisi's one-day visit includes talks with Sri Lankan officials to finalize agreements between the two countries, as indicated by the Iranian Government Spokesperson.
