Sanctions policy a failure

Kanani’s response to Nournews journalist

Sanctions policy a failure

NOURNEWS – In response to questions from Nournews during the weekly media briefing held this Monday morning, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani, addressed the approval of the 21st Century Peace through Strength Act by the US House of Representatives last Saturday, stating, "The US government and its legal institutions have grown accustomed to sanctions."

He added, "In the past, we have declared that such sanction measures are a failed policy."

According to him, while the imposition of sanctions undoubtedly harms the people of Iran, the sanctioning country will gain no benefit.

Kanani noted that the US government has previously experienced the outcomes of such sanctions, stating, "Those who speak of crippling sanctions are now astonished by Iran's remarkable progress in technological fields."

Continuing, Kanani recommended that the US learn from the past, stating, "They should even learn from their own failed experiences."

In the spokesman's view, the US government, the one who disrupted negotiations, should compensate for this damage and return the process to the right path.

He emphasized that, in our opinion, the diplomatic path remains open and can lead both parties to the desired outcome of the JCPOA.

Kanani emphasized that Iran is not seeking to escalate tensions in the region but rather to strengthen peace and stability, adding, "The actions taken by Iran had international legitimacy and had fulfilled the necessary political, legal, and international prerequisites in this regard."
