Kazakhstan declares state of emergency in 10 states amid worst floods in decades

Worst floods in decades have hit Kazakhstan, forcing the country to declare a state of emergency in 10 of its 14 states.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said the country was experiencing the worst floods in 80 years, and a state of emergency had been declared in 10 states.

More than 98,000 people had been evacuated because of the floods, the country's Emergencies Ministry said on Thursday.

The ministry said on Tuesday that since late March, northern Kazakhstan has been suffering from severe flooding caused by melting snow.
